Is your AI underselling you?
How to spot and correct gender bias in the AI tools you use for money, career and health.
Same profile. Lower pay
Researchers gave five leading AI models identical profiles that differed only by gender. The women were advised to ask for lower salaries.
It isn’t a one-off. UNESCO found clear bias against women in every large language model it tested. AI-written reference letters describe women as warm and men as leaders and role models.
The bias rarely shows in a single answer. It shows as a slightly lower number, a softer adjective or a default image, repeated millions of times.
Sound familiar?
You asked AI to polish your CV and “led” became “supported”.
You asked what to charge, and the number felt low.
It offered you a fallback position before anyone had pushed back.
You asked about a symptom and it suggested stress first
You asked for an image of a leader and didn’t see anyone like you
